InYourKitchen is made by KWE ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the InYourKitchen app collects, why, and the choices you have. Contact us any time at support@kwe.life.
What we collect
Your account
Your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google. We use these to create your account, keep you signed in and let you share a household.
Your kitchen
The things you add to the app: pantry items, use-by dates, shopping lists, receipt items (product names, quantities, prices, store and date), meal plans, meals cooked, ratings, dietary preferences, alert settings and your household membership. This is stored so the app works across your devices and with the people in your household.
Receipt photos
When you scan a receipt, the photo is read on your phone using Google ML Kit text recognition. The photo itself is not uploaded. The text read from it is sent to our server so the items can be identified.
Supermarket price comparison
To show real prices in Compare Prices, our server combines the item prices from receipts scanned by all InYourKitchen users into a typical price for each item at each supermarket (for example "milk at Tesco: £1.45"). Only these combined figures are shared in the app, and only when at least three purchases from at least two different households agree, so a price can't be traced back to you or your household. Your own receipts, items and household stay private.
Calendar (optional)
If you allow it, the app looks at your device calendar to see which days are busy so it can suggest quicker meals. We only save a busy level for each day (for example "busy" or "free"). We never save or upload your event titles, times, attendees or other details.
Meal photos (optional)
If you share a photo of a meal you cooked, the photo and your caption are uploaded to our secure storage (Google Firebase) with your account ID and the recipe. Photos are checked by us before they appear to other users, and you can see your own photos and their status in your Profile. To have a photo removed, email support@kwe.life; photos are also deleted if you delete your account.
By uploading a photo, you confirm you own the rights to it and grant KWE a licence to display it inside the app.
Camera
Used when you scan a barcode or a receipt, or take a meal photo to share.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store a device token so we can send you morning reminders about food that is about to go off and items you are running low on, and a short weekly summary of what you used and wasted. You can turn these off in the app's settings or your phone settings.
Purchases
If you subscribe to Premium on the web, payment is handled by Stripe through RevenueCat Web Billing; in the Android app it is handled by Google Play. We never see your card details. RevenueCat tells us whether your subscription is active, and we store your Premium status and expiry date with your account.
App performance
We use Firebase Performance Monitoring to collect technical data such as app start times and network speeds, which helps us keep the app fast. This does not include the contents of your pantry or lists.
App usage analytics
We use Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, so we can fix problems and improve it. It records things like when the app is opened, which screens are viewed, how long sessions last, and basic device information (device model, operating system, app version, language and approximate country, worked out from your internet connection). It uses an app instance ID and, on Android, your device's advertising ID. We use this only for analytics: we do not show ads, and we do not use it to advertise to you or share it with advertisers. It does not include the contents of your pantry, lists or receipts. You can reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in your phone's settings (for example Settings > Google > All services > Ads, or Settings > Privacy > Ads).
Reports
If you report a community recipe or meal photo, we store the report (what was reported, the reason you chose, your account ID and the time) so our team can review it. The person who posted it is not told who reported it. See our Terms and Community Guidelines.
AI features
Some features use Google's Gemini AI: reading receipts, creating recipes, meal picks, use-by date predictions, shopping suggestions, tips and the assistant. For these, the relevant information (for example the receipt text, your pantry item names and dates, your dietary preferences or what you typed) is sent from our server to the Gemini API to produce the answer. We don't send your name or email. Free accounts can use a limited number of AI receipt scans; other AI features are part of Premium.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data, we do not show ads and we do not share your data with advertisers. We only share data with the services that run the app for us:
- Google Firebase (sign-in, database, cloud functions, notifications, performance monitoring and app usage analytics). Data is stored in Google Cloud, mainly in the London region.
- Google Gemini API (AI features, as described above).
- RevenueCat, Stripe and Google Play (subscriptions and payments).
- Members of your household, who can see the household's pantry, list, plans and stats.
Recipes you choose to publish to the community are public to other users, showing the author name you entered. They are not linked to your account.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your account, profile, settings and device tokens straight away. If you were the last member of your household, the household's kitchen data is deleted too. If other people are still in your household, the shared kitchen data stays for them.
Deleting your account
In the app, go to Profile > Delete account. You can also request deletion on the web. Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription; cancel it in Google Play first.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR) you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, or object to how we use it. Email support@kwe.life and we'll reply within one month. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections. Our database rules only let you read your own household's data, and AI keys are kept on our server, never in the app.
Children
InYourKitchen is for adults managing a home kitchen and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
